Your bar exam prep strategies (especially, at the end) determine your success of sitting for bar exam.
As the next bar exam is just around the corner, how can you maximize your chances to pass the exam on this try? What should you do right before sitting for bar exam?
To help you nail this top legal test, I’ll now share with you 13 successful strategies.
Strategies on Sitting for Bar Exam
- Remember your big ‘why’ (reasons) to take and pass the bar exam. Keep in mind the great benefits that passing the bar would bring you.
- Focus on the most important parts, such as MBE. In particular, finish any remaining MBE practice questions. Review explanations of answer choices, especially on questions that you missed or guessed.
- Review your outlines. Pay attention to the points that you highlighted during your bar exam preparation. Read your notes, comments, and remarks.
- Review the black-letter law. Memorize the rules and exceptions. No need to review cases, however. You can just recall the names and major legal issues of some landmark cases.
- Review difficult MBE practice questions, especially the ones that you answered incorrectly. Recollect explanations of correct answer choices.
- Use the IRAC structure when writing essays. Argue any legal issue on both sides. State arguments and counterarguments. As Charles Lamb said, “he is no lawyer who cannot take two sides.”
- Fuel your brain. Drink lots of water (not beer) and eat healthy food (such as dark chocolate with nuts). At the same time, avoid junk food.
- Boost your physical condition. For example, walk, jog, run, swim, exercise, and play sports (even chess — for your memory).
- Refresh yourself. Study for less than 8 hours a day. Sleep 8 hours per night. Also, take a nap during the day.
- Visit your bar exam place. Get into the test room prepared to sit for bar exam. This is like becoming comfortable with your sports car on the race track 😉
- Prepare everything you need for the bar exam, such as your watch, laptop and charger as well as sharpened pencils and clean erasers.
- For the last few days before the exam, reset yourself. Stop drilling. Rather, rest, relax, and enjoy. Let your brain restore and prime for your race.
- Be ahead of time. Arrive to your bar exam location well in advance. For example, be there at least half an hour earlier. Take your place in the queue and get into your test seat sooner rather than later.
This is more than enough for you to succeed with sitting for bar exam.
